Getting it
Ukgoth, Holy Land of Trolls has a standing portal into the Battleground, and the node is always there. The old token puzzle still works: put all five tokens inside Ukgoth's stone circle and cast Martyr's Battleground in that room to open a second portal. There is a portal out of the Battleground to the Hermit's Hut if you need the short way home.
Melding
Stand within two squares of the node and use it. The bond raises your maximum mana by three points plus a tenth of your Mysticism, rounded, so between three and eight depending on how mystical you are. You can bond with each node once, and the game will list the ones you hold if you ask.
